INTRODUCTION

The MUCG operates in a multi-campus system. The Faculty of Agriculture is located at its Wenchi Campus in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The Faculty’s Aims:

  • Preparation of students to engage in farming as a business,
  • Preparation of students to manage agricultural enterprises and related industries,
  • Development of the student’s ability to think critically and to develop the highest ethical and human values and excellent aesthetic taste and
  • Provision of students with the best academic, professional and practical training including the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation.

The Faculty’s Vision Statement

The Faculty of Agriculture is to be capable on a sustainable basis to develop skilled manpower responsive to the needs of Ghana’s agricultural sector.

The Faculty’s Mission Statement

The Faculty of Agriculture is to sustainably facilitate the exploitation of the agricultural potential of the various ecological zones through the development and application of improved technologies to accelerate integrated rural development and reduce poverty in the country.
In pursuance of the Faculty’s mission it is necessary to:

  • Develop the Faculty into a centre of excellence in agriculture;
  • The Faculty’s programmes are to take cognizance of national agricultural policies and manpower needs of the country;
  • Undertake vigorous research the by-products of which will yield income to the University;
  • Develop pilot projects out of the Faculty’s research programmes;
  • Undertake value addition to agricultural products for internal income generation.
  • Undertake consultancy services.

The Faculty’s Departments are: Agricultural Mechanization & Agro-processing, Agricultural Economics & Agribusiness, Agricultural Extension, Animal Science, Crop Science and Horticulture.

The Faculty is offering (1) one year Certificate in Horticulture, Agribusiness and Agro-processing; (2) two year Diploma in Horticulture and two year Diploma in General Agriculture and (4) four year Bachelor of Science in General Agriculture (BSc (General) Agric).

Faculty members are engaged in teaching, research and extension activities. The main activities of the Faculty of Agriculture emphasize problem solving, participatory learning approaches geared towards integrated rural development, poverty reduction and its eventual alleviation. Graduands from the Faculty will be technologically proficient, practically oriented managers of commercial farms and agribusiness houses. Upon completion of their courses, the products of the Faculty would be made to think first of self employment or be the first choice of development oriented employers.
