Admission Requirements for Bachelors' Degree Programmes 2011/2012
 
 
Bachelor’s Degree Programmes
 
Admission to First Degree Programmes is offered to applicants with the following qualifications:
 
1. WASSCE/SSSCE Certificate  Holders
 
Applicants must have:

i. A credit pass in Core English and Core Mathematics, in addition to a pass in one of the following other core subjects: Integrated Science, Social Studies or /Life Skills

ii. Credit passes in any three (3) Elective subjects.

The aggregate score for the core and elective subjects must not exceed 36 for WASSCE holders, and 24 for SSSCE holders.

iii.   Please note that a credit pass in Elective Mathematics is also required of all  applicants to the B.Sc Mathematics and Statistics, and the B.Sc Economics, Mathematics/Statistics ,B.Sc Economics and Statistics, and Economics  programmes.

iv.   A credit pass in Elective Mathematics is an added advantage for applicants to the B.Sc Economics programme.

v.   Applicants to the English Studies programme are also required to have a credit pass in Literature in English.

The WAEC equivalent of the WASSCE/SSSCE grading system has been adopted.  This is shown in the table.

2. G.C.E. Ordinary and Advanced Level Certificate Holders

Credit Passes in at least Five (5) subjects (including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject) in the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) G.C.E. ‘O’ Level and School Certificate Examinations, and Three (3) passes at the Advanced Level of the G.C.E, one of which should be a ‘D’ or better.  Two ‘A’ Level passes at Grade ‘C’ or better will also be accepted.   A pass in General Paper must also be obtained.

 
3.  General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) Certificate Holders

Five (5) passes at GBCE including English Language and Mathematics in the WAEC Business Certificate Examination.

 

4. Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) Certificate Holders

Five (5) credit passes at GBCE or SSSCE including English Language and Mathematics, and Five (5) passes at ABCE made up of three (3) compulsory and two (2) optional subjects in the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Business Certificate Examination.
 
5.  Other Applicants
The following qualifications are also acceptable:

a. HND
b. DBS or Diploma from any  recognized institution

c. RSA Stage II & III
d.  Post–Secondary Teacher Training Certificate from a recognized institution

e. Diplomas from recognized Universities

f. Professional Certificates from recognized professional bodies

g. Association of Business Executives (A.B.E)

 
6. Mature Applicants
Persons applying for admission to Bachelor’s degree programmes who have attained the age of twenty-seven (27) or more, but who do not fully satisfy the above requirements will be classified as Mature Candidates. Such applicants must have reasonable education and working experience. All Mature Applicants will be required to write the Mature Candidates Entrance Examination.   Admission of applicants in this category will depend basically on their performance in the Entrance Examination.
